"An hour of study, for the modern apostle, is an hour of prayer."St. Josemaría Escrivá, The Way, 335
For two weeks of each finals season, students flock to Balanghai's study to cooperate in a mass-action type of community service: the Study for a Cause. Every Study for a Cause is designated a specific cause or intention for which the participants offer up their hours of study. Why is that? Because, as St. Josemaría Escrivá taught, study can be converted into prayer and offered up for specific intentions. As a result, when a student studies for God, she studies well and with selfless motives. Thus, In gathering a huge number of students during Study for a Cause, Balanghai generates a strong force to push noble intentions, such as the recovery of victims of tragedy, rural service projects or advocacies that promote social progress. Any student who wants to participate in Study for a Cause need only go to Balanghai and log their study hours. It starts the week before the finals week and ends on the Saturday of the finals week. But, even if there's no Study for a Cause, Balanghai's library is open to students who want to have a peaceful and homey place to study. One is encouraged to still offer up study hours for her own intentions outside of Study for a Cause.
