Ripples : a light ruffling on the surface of the water, formed when a pebble is thrown into the water, concentric circles build up and have the potential of creating waves that can launch a thousand ships and reach new horizons.
This is exactly what Ripples High School Club is to the many young high school girls who form part of the circle.
'...each of us is like a single pebble that begins a series of ripples across the stream...making a difference in the lives of others through our very own...'
Background and Goals
Ripples Club is a club for young high school girls, ages 13-16, committed to provide supplementary and complementary holistic formation received at home and in school.
As these young lasses burst with life and energy, a world full of action and adventure is what they seek. So before restlessness and boredom creeps in, the club helps them channel all these extra youthful reserves to more formative and productive activities.
Our Goals
- To provide human, academic, cultural, spiritual and doctrinal formation
- To go through self-discovery, self-knowledge, self-mastery, and self-giving
- To inculcate a great love for learning and mold them to become women of great character with unwavering moral principles, and of great noble desires and ambitions
- To learn, accept, and appreciate other young girls who form part of the club
History
A blast from the past!
The Club began in January 1995 with the aim to promote a holistic formation among young people who are in the difficult and challenging stage of teenage life. Since the seat is in San Antonio Village (Pasig), the members are those belonging to girl's high schools within the Ortigas-San Juan-Mandaluyong-Makati area. However, girls belonging to schools from other areas started to take part in the different activities organized by the club.
The crucial stage of youth prompted Balanghai Study Center, hand in hand with Kalinangan Youth Foundation, Inc. (KALFI), to organize a girl's teen club as an answer to the need for providing alternative wholesome activities outside school and home.
The Club is one of the many organized clubs under the umbrella organization of KALFI. Its overriding principle is to form future exemplary women by providing means to instill in them the desire to live virtues, to acquire enriched knowledge, and to have a genuine concern for others. This is how the people behind KALFI, through Balanghai Study Center and THE RIPPLES CLUB, want to contribute to nation building.
Funding
Since the Ripples Club is under the KALFI, a non-profit, non-stock, non-government organization, funding for the activities come from the activity fees, donations come from generous parents, friends, and a few companies (sporadic). Club Moderators and Junior Counselors work as volunteers who find time to help out in the club. Bulk of the expenses go to the needs of the activities like facilities, materials, food, transportation, and medicine.
